Center Information
Mrs. Tanner usually does seven centers in one week. Each center has a unique topic. Center topics can either be religion, social studies, science, or math. Students get a period of 15 to 20 minutes to work together with a team of three other students to complete an assignment. Some centers even provide small group instruction with the teacher.
If students do not finish their assigned task during the 15 or 20 minute period, they will be ask to complete their work at home. It is okay to help your child if they need help, but please don't provide answers.
Each student has a blue center folder that they use to collect work throughout the week. This folder has a "return to school" side and a "home" side. This is because some assignments we will need to use again or because I would like to assess them. Please review the papers on the "return to school" side, but do not discard them. In addition to their work papers there will also be an evidence checklist paper ( see sample below). This is how the students keep track of what they have completed and what still needs to be done. At the end of the week, I ask that you go through the papers and make sure that everything is complete ( there will be sometimes that the students may be given permission to only complete part of the assignment). Please sign the evidence checklist over the weekend and place it on the "return to school" side. This sheet will allow me to give the students a completion grade for centers. The papers on the "home" side may stay at home.
